How to choose a separator page in Windows® XP

A separator or a banner page gives details about who sent the document to the printer and gives the exact date and time of printing. There are three separator page files provided by Windows, which are located in the ‘systemrootSystem32’ folder on your computer.

The solution to the problem

Follow the instructions to choose a separator page in Windows XP:

  1. 1

In the ‘Printers and Faxes’ folder right-click the printer and click ‘Properties’.

  2. 2

On the ‘Advanced’ tab click the ‘Separator Page’ button.

  3. 3

On the ‘Separator Page’ dialog box, click ‘Browse’ to open the ‘Separator Page’ window.

  4. 4

Select the ‘SYSPRTJ.SEP’ file to print a blank page before print jobs sent to a PostScript printer. Click ‘Open’.

  5. 5

Click ‘OK’ to close the ‘Separator Page’ dialog box.

  6. 6

Click ‘OK’ again to apply the changes and close the ‘Properties’ dialog box.

Keep a note that a separate page can be created on your Windows XP based computer as a ‘Pcl.sep’ file for Printer Control Language (CL) printers; a ‘Pscript.sep’ file and a ‘Sysprint.sep’ file for PostScript printers.
