This problem may occur if the transactional log file that is used by the NTFS file system is corrupted. This issue also occurs if a service that is required for Windows Update or for Microsoft Update is not registered.

1Click' Start', type cmd in the 'Start Search' box, and then right-click 'cmd' in the 'Programs' list.
2Click 'Run as administrator', and then click 'Continue'. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click 'Allow'.
3At a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: 'fsutil resource setautoreset true c: '
4Restart the computer.
5Use Windows Update to install the latest updates.
