By default, when a user clicks on the desktop in Windows XP, a context menu is displayed. The issue when new folder is missing from desktop is generally caused because of damaged or incorrect key entry.

Follow the instructions to resolve an error when new folder is missing from desktop context menu in Windows 7:

    Click ‘Start’ and click on ‘Start Search’ box.

    Type “regedit” and then press ‘ENTER’.

    Locate and then click on the following registry sub key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryBackgroundshellexContextMenuHandlersNew .

  5. 5

    Make sure that the Default value is {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}.

    Close the registry editor window and check whether the issue is resolved or not, if the issue still persist then proceed to next step.

    Right click on the ‘folderfix.reg’ file and then click on ‘Merge’.

    Click on ‘Yes’ to confirm the changes.

Footnotes:
