How to configure Hotmail or Windows Live Mail Account in Windows Mail

Windows Live Mail is an e-mail program that you install on your computer. Windows Live Mail stores messages on your computer. This means that you can access, read, and compose e-mail messages even when you are not connected to the Internet. Setting up your e-mail is a bit like setting up a new computer: You do it only once. After you configure your e-mail accounts in Windows Mail, you never have to hassle with it again—unless, of course, you open a new e-mail account.

The solution to the problem

Follow the instructions to configure Hotmail or Windows Live Mail Account in Windows Mail:

    Open ‘Windows Mail’

    Click ‘Tools’ and click ‘Accounts’

    Click ‘Add’, and then click ‘Mail’

    Type your ‘Name’ and then click ‘Next’.

    Type your full ‘Windows Live Hotmail email address’, and then click ‘Next’

    In the ‘My incoming mail server’ box, click ‘POP3’. and type ‘pop3.live.com’

    In the ‘Outgoing mail SMTP server’ box, type s’mtp.live.com’

    Type the account name and the password for your ‘Windows Live Hotmail account’.

    Make sure that the Log on using ‘Secure Password Authentication (SPA)’ check box isn’t selected.

    Click ‘Next’, and then click ‘Finish’.

    In the ‘Internet Accounts’ window, click the ‘Mail’ tab, Select the ‘Windows Live Hotmail account’ that you added, and then click ‘Properties’.

    Click the ‘Advanced’ tab, under ‘Server Port Numbers’, enter the following information, and then click OK

    In the ‘Incoming server (POP3)’ box, type ‘995’

    In the ‘Outgoing server (SMTP)’ box, type ‘25’ or ‘587’

    Under both ‘Outgoing mail (SMTP)’ and ‘Incoming mail (POP3)’, select the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) check box

    Click ‘Close’.
