How to change the value axis scale in Microsoft® Excel

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application which makes your operations more convenient. By using one of its tools, you can change the value axis scale in the spreadsheet. By default, Microsoft Office Excel determines the minimum and maximum scale values of the vertical (value) axis when you create a chart.

The solution to the problem

Follow the instructions to change the value axis scale in Microsoft Excel:

  1. 1

    Activate the chart.

  2. 2

    Select the on) value axis.

  3. 3

Select the ‘Format’ menu and select ‘Select Axis…’. (The ‘Format Axis’ dialog box appears.)

  4. 4

    Click the ‘Scale’ tab.

  5. 5

Type the desired values in the appropriate boxes.

  6. 6

In the ‘Crosses At’ box, type the value where the category axis (or floor for a 3-D chart) should cross the value axis for all charts, except Radar.

  7. 7

    Click ‘OK’.

The typed values will change the low (minimum) and high (maximum) values, or in-between intervals (major and minor units) on the axis. ‘Auto’ check boxes are cleared when custom values are typed. Select the ‘Auto’ check box in front of the desired option to restore its original default value.
