Reason
You may be interested in determining the number of days, months or years between two dates in Excel 2002. This allows you to carry out multiple calculations.

The solution to the problem

Follow the instructions to calculate the number of months between two dates in Excel 2002:

  1. 1

    To calculate the number of months between two dates and NOT take days into consideration, type the following formula:

  2. 2

    =(((YEAR(””)-YEAR(””))*12))+(MONTH(””)-MONTH(””))

  3. 3

    NOTE: Years are taken into consideration when you use this formula.

  4. 4

    EXAMPLE: To find out how old the person typing this example was at the turn of the century:

  5. 5

    =(((YEAR(”01/01/2000”)-YEAR(”06/30/1962”))*12))+(MONTH(”01/01/2000”)-MONTH(”06/30/1962”))

  6. 6

    To calculate the number of months between two dates and take days into consideration, type the following formula:

  7. 7

    =IF(DAY(””)>=DAY(””),0,-1)+(YEAR(””)-YEAR(””))*12+MONTH(””)-MONTH(””)

Footnotes:

There are two methods by which Excel calculates the number of months between two dates, Round up and Round down. The Round up method does not use the day of the month is its calculation, whereas the Round down method uses the number of days in its calculations and rounds down to the nearest number of whole months.
