Philips spreads luminous carpets on your way
Dutch company Philips is introducing to the world a smart flooring concept in the form of luminous carpets. The premise is to develop smart flooring for airports, theatres and hotels, which would be embedded with LEDs to provide information such as directions.
Philips has developed smart carpets, which are fitted with a layer of LED lights underneath specially designed, "light transmissive" carpets. These LEDs are claimed to last for over 20 years and are capable of withstanding spills, cleaning and foot traffic without the LEDs malfunctioning or overheating.
The carpets would be officially launched next week at Lightfair International Trade Show in New York.
