Cannot receive the message notification in other IMAP folders using Thunderbird

This problem arises if the IMAP account settings are not configured properly. Thunderbird enables you to use the POP and the IMAP mail accounts. By default, a message notification appears when a new e-mail arrives in the Inbox. If the settings are not configured properly in the IMAP account, the message notification will not pop-up for the remote folders.

The solution to the problem

Follow the instructions to receive the message notification in other IMAP folders using Thunderbird:

  1. 1

    Open Thunderbird.

  2. 2

From the ‘Tools’ menu, click ‘Options’.

  3. 3

    Click the ‘Advanced’ button.

  4. 4

    Click the ‘Config Editor’ button.

  5. 5

In the ‘Filter’ box, enter ‘mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new’.

  6. 6

    Double-click the appropriate parameter.

  7. 7

    Close the ‘about:config’ window.

  8. 8

    Click ‘OK’.

With improved IMAP support comes improved Synchronization. Thunderbird 3 now supports e-mail message archiving, meaning that you can now file any message in Inbox into the new Archive folder system. If you archive an e-mail message from Inbox, it will be added to the ‘All Mail’ folder just like it happens in Gmail.
